Our Vision

Parent Testimonial:
"Breckenridge Montessori has been the perfect place to introduce our daughter to a school environment, preparing her for years of grade school and beyond. She has thoroughly enjoyed her lessons each day and the teachers have always worked to meet her right at her level. Her vocabulary, motor skills, practical life skills, writing abilities, and social skills are now far beyond what is expected of her age level and we attribute that greatly to the nurturing environment at Breck Montessori, the love and care of her teachers, and the Montessori Method itself."
Ten Features of an Authentic Montessori School
1. Each class is led by a Montessori certified teacher who has studied onsite at a training center of the American Montessori Society or Association Montessori Internationale.
2. Each class has a full complement of Montessori materials organized in the areas of:
Practical Life
Sensorial
Language
Math
and Cultural
3. Each class has a mixed age group of children of a three-year span. At the primary level the children ages 2 ½ – 5 or 3 – 6 are in the same classroom.
4. Within a Montessori program, children progress at their own pace, moving on to the next step in each area of learning as they are ready. Most of the lessons are presented individually to children.
5. The learning involves hands-on interaction with a wide variety of concrete materials.
6. Montessori children enjoy considerable freedom of movement and choice; however their freedom always exists within carefully defined limits that respect the needs of everyone in the classroom community. Montessori teachers are trained to positively redirect behavior that is disruptive or not in the children’s best interest.
7. Montessori teaches children not only appropriate patterns of polite behavior, but seeks to instill basic universal values including respect for themselves, others and the environment, kindness, acceptance of differences, individual responsibility and sensitivity to the needs of others.
8. The Montessori educator deliberately models the behaviors and attitudes that she is working to instill in her students. Because of Montessori’s emphasis on character development, the Montessori teacher is exceptionally calm, kind, warm, and polite to each child.
9. The Montessori teacher is firm at the edges and empathetic at the center, the kind of adult who responds empathetically to children’s feelings, while setting clear and consistent limits.
10. The Montessori prepared environment is a warm and comfortable educational setting where children learn with joy and excitement.
